A charitable, jargon-free office

A little like education and its acronyms (EYFS, ESL, LEA, SENCO, PTA etc), the business world is full of people who are full of umm… corporate jargon. Those with North American parent companies are particularly vulnerable; they enjoy reaching out about the marketing space and touching base to push the customer onboarding piece onto the backburner. We don’t.

At Elementary Technology, we prefer to have an honest chat about how we can improve things and make people’s lives better.

Hosting such companies in our office as we often do, whether it’s hearing about the latest product developments or having some team training, we saw an opportunity. Not only could this help minimise the use of jargon, we could also raise some money for charity.

So we introduced the jargon jar!

This now means each and every visitor who turns up is strictly monitored by our CJDS (Corporate Jargon Detection System). New visitors are allowed one or two misdemeanours before they are subject to full T&Cs of a meeting at Elementary Technology – as shown above when a visitor repeatedly disregarded the rules.

There is a serious side to this initiative though, and in fact, our visitors are more than happy to contribute, whether or not they fell foul of the rules. It’s because all proceeds from the Jargon Jar are being donated to our chosen charity.

This fantastic charity helps to put life-saving defibrillators within easy-to-access locations to reduce the number of deaths each year from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Use of a defibrillator within the 5 minutes of SCA enormously improves chances of survival, yet they’re not always in a position where someone could access them if the worst were to happen.

Read our blog article for more information, and how as a school or a partner, you can help support this charity’s work.

Also, before you come to our office for a meeting, or our Customer Experience Centre to see the latest education technology, ask us for a copy of the Corporate Jargon Act 2018.

Then make sure you break every rule in the book!
